If you like to buy your milk at the store, nowadays, there is next to nothing in the way of limitations. Think of how many plants you can make milk out of: oats, soy, rice, cashew, hemp, flax... the sky is the limit!
So much less restrictive than animal based milks- cow and maybe goat?
There are some great, well distributed offerings that can make a mean hot chocolate. Here are some of our favourite recommendations- please note, not all of these are manufactured by ethical companies, but it is a great place to start for beginners.
Earth's Own manufactures in Canada and isn't owned by any parent companies. They are a great option! The Unsweetened Original could work just great for your hot chocolate. Soy milks, which are very high in protein, provide a nice creamy base for your hot chocolate.

If all else fails, Silk is a very well distributed option- unfortunately, they are owned by dairy giant, Danone, but this is still a far better option than going with dairy milk.
